reghive not deleting in default box

Post by noorismail on 25/7/2010, 03:10

I had a strange thing happen today.
I watched an online movie,in Firefox,Sandboxed and in ShadowMode.
At the end of the movie,I attempted to delete the content of the sandbox,
and received the error message "Unable to move sandbox, some files still in use by another program"

A check of TaskManager showed Firefox inactive.
I then opened sandboxie interface, chose explorer sandbox, and deleted everything other that reg-hive,witch returned the same error message,ie,"files still in use"

At this point I tried "unlocker" application with no results.

It took a reboot in ShadowMode to empty the default (Firefox)sandbox.

I had installed the latest Firefox update,3.6.7,while in shadowMode,it is not on my real system at this time.
Sandboxie 3.46

(ps) I have this failure to empty error ever so often, but it was always resolved by "unlocker".

run regedt32
look for your sandbox in
HKEY_USERS on Local Machine
Highlight your sandbox
click on "registry" menu tab of the editor
Choose "unload hive"
then your sandbox contents will delete.
I think that should do it. Smile
...........

Something else

In Sandboxie Control (your particular Sandbox), "Sandbox settings" in sandboxie just check that you have "file migration" set high enough for what you are doing.

Thank you Patrick.

I had an awful lot loaded into the Sandbox,so the file migration settings may be the answer.
They were set at default,so I will lift them a bit.

That´s a recurrent problem in Sandboxie. I and other people have reported it several times but tzuk is unable to reproduce the bug so it´s not possible for him to fix it.

When that happens the only solution is rebooting.

Ok Buster_BSA,thanks.
It seems to be a "one-off",or at least random thing.
Should it re-occur,I will know.

As far as I remember when it happened to me the "solution" I offer above does not require a re-boot.

I am sure you are right Patrick, but it does require Regedit32,and that creeps my non-technical brain out.

If I can get out of a problem without messing with the registry,I am going to jump on it.

but this one is not that bad. Smile
If it ever happens to you again let me know and I will talk you through it.

patrick: The few times I have had that problem the regedit trick didn´t work. The reg hive tree would not unload.

Buster, when that happens try right click Sandboxie tray icon "terminate all programs" before you open regedt32 Smile
